Steve Farzam The Shore Hotel - Santa Monica
Steve Farzam was born in Washington in 1978 to two immigrant Jewish Iranian parents who came to
America to provide a better life for the family. It was in Seattle where the Farzam family entered the hotel
business when they acquired a motel in Seattle, setting Steve on a path of service, hospitality and a
dedication to excellence.
From a young age, it was clear that Steve was a natural leader with a diverse range of interests. He
excelled in areas of sociology, emergency medicine and law earning his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology
from Cal State University Northridge, his National Registry Paramedic certification where he later worked
as a flight paramedic in Arizona. He also attended Abraham Lincoln Law School, while teaching as a
professor of emergency medicine at a local college.
Steve’s varied skill set and education has been one of his greatest assets, but considers his crowning
achievement to be when in 2008 he received the Medal of Valor for bravery and heroic work, from the
Burn Institute and the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, when he saved the life of an
unconscious person who was trapped in a burning vehicle while off duty. Prior to receiving this award, he
has helped as a volunteer medic during Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, and shared his knowledge of
safety and disaster preparedness while as a guest of the Tyra Banks show where he discussed being
proactive for accident safety.
As COO of Shore Hotel in Santa Monica California, Steve has committed the entire hotel
in reducing their carbon footprint. Shore Hotel is a LEED Gold certified building that was
constructed under his close management where he sought to fulfill his community’s
hospitality needs. The hotel has won several dozen awards and accolades for its environmental
responsibility and green stewardship. The hotel consistently ranks #1 on Trip Advisor of 34
hotels in the city and Voted #4 by Conde Nast Readers’ Choice: Top 25 Hotels in Southern
California. Steve personally launched a strategic partnership with Southern California Edison to help
prevent blackouts on neighboring power grids. His determination and collaboration led to Shore Hotel
being benchmarked as the first property in the entire state of California to successfully deploy a fully
automated system referred to as the "Auto Demand Response" program. This allows Southern California
Edison to remotely send a signal during peak electrical demands on the grid whereby the hotel sheds
approximately 50% of its power consumption.
In Steve’s free time he enjoys his family and friends, especially being a fun uncle to his 12 nieces and
nephews. He loves to cook and entertain and as an avid collector, Steve loves restoring classic vehicles.
In his spare time, he enjoys flying fixed wing aircraft and volunteering at local hospitals with his dogs that
are certified in patient therapy. He credits his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Siroos Farzam, for instilling a strong
work ethic, a passion for service and a love of hospitality, along with an appreciation for living each day to
the fullest, always treating others with kindness, humility and not taking anything for granted. His future
plans include expanding the family business and one day his own family.
